he Azme Alishan pledge is simple: it’s to affirm amongst ourselves and send a message to the world that we will define our own future as a people and a nation. Through a series of public events and activities planned throughout 2010, the campaign aims to:

Challenge all Pakistanis to speak up for these values and to act on them, and Invite Pakistanis and the world’s media to see a different Pakistan, the one behind the images and stereotypes of division provoked by a few.

The campaign is nothing to do with government or big business. It’s about us as a people, taking part in something together, renewing our faith in each other, and rekindling the communal spirit that laid the foundations for the creation of Pakistan through the Lahore Resolution 70 years ago.

Get Involved:

Though sponsored by some of Pakistan’s leading media groups, Azme Alishan is far more than an advertising or media campaign. It’s a movement – a vehicle for all Pakistanis to speak up for the country we love.

A number of events and activities have been planned that will give Pakistanis an opportunity to speak for themselves, details of which will be announced throughout the year and appear on the home page of this site.

While many will be based in Lahore – the city that gave birth to the very idea of Pakistan – they will be open to all Pakistanis, both at home and abroad.

Fundamentally, the campaign belongs to the people of Pakistan. So don’t just sit on the sidelines. Make a new resolve and join the fight for the soul of our country.

After the browser wars subsided, and the dominant browsers such as Internet Explorer became more W3C compliant, designers started turning toward CSS as an alternate means of laying out their pages.

CSS proponents say that tables should be used only for tabular data, not for layout. Using CSS instead of tables also returns HTML to a semantic markup, which helps bots and search engines understand what’s going on in a web page. All modern Web browsers support CSS with different degrees of limitations.

These days most modern browsers have solved most of these quirks in CSS rendering and this has made many different CSS layouts possible. However, some people continue to use old browsers, and designers need to keep this in mind, and allow for graceful degrading of pages in older browsers. Most notable among these old browsers are Internet Explorer 5 and 5.5, which, according to some web designers, are becoming the new Netscape Navigator 4 — a block that holds the World Wide Web back from converting to CSS design. However, the W3 Consortium has made CSS in combination with XHTML the standard for web design.
